Press ReleaseAppointments to SEAC announcedProfessor Alun Williams, Head of Department of Pathology and Infectious Diseases at the Royal Veterinary College, has been appointed to the Spongiform Encephalopathy Advisory Committee (SEAC). Mr Peter Jinman has been reappointed to SEAC These appointments were confirmed following agreement by Defra, the Department of Health, the chair of the Food Standards Agency and devolved administrations in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. SEAC provides independent expert advice on all issues relating to Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies including BSE and CJD. All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity (if any declared) to be made public. Neither Mr Jinman nor Professor Williams have carried out any political activity in the last five years. This appointment has been made in accordance with the OCPA* Code of Practice.
